Selling on Instagram

Since posting on facebook about selling on Instagram (ig) there's been a lot of interest about it.
So I'm putting together a list if to a tips, and how to's.

What you'll need -
1. A paypal account. All sales buying or selling are done through PayPal. If you don't have a paypal account you'll need to creat one first.

2. A ig account just for selling. When you're set up with PayPal and ready to go you can create a separate ig account from your personal (if you have one) account. Having a selling only page keeps it clean and buyer friendly.

3. Good quality clothes. The better the brands the newer the clothes, the better they'll sell.
Some of the top selling brands on ig are BabyGap, old navy (ON), zara, h&m, crewcuts, genuine kids ect. Cheaper brands don't sell as well, but can still go for a few bucks. Make sure your items are in good condition, clean, no stains, holes, or rips. Minimal fading or wash wear.

Getting started-
After you got your page created you'll want to create a list of polices. Most of us have similar polices.
No refunds or returns, must pay invoice within a certain time frame (most of us go with a few hours up to 12 hours), first paypal email claims item, but backups are welcome, ship to US only, ect. Just a few examples.

Posting-
You can start posting right away, or wait until you've reach a certain number of followers.
I jumped in with a few items posted while gaining followers. It's really up to you on how you'd like to do it.
When posting pictures, take then in as much natural lighting as possible. Make sure they are clear, clutter free pictures. I use a white blanket to take pictures on. Do not use the filters on ig, buyers want to see items in natural form. If a item has a detail on it, you can post a close up detail photo. Just put in the description "detail, no comments please"
After you got a good photo of the item, put in as much info about the item in the description along with price (remember fees and shipping cost). Some post randomly, some of us post at a certain time and day and give a few days notice so buyers know and can comment for a tag. Posting a preview picture is always a good idea, everyone loves a sneak peek!

Pricing-
When pricing your items, don't over or under price.
Ask yourself "how much would I pay for this?" When posting a price.
Most of us include paypal fee and shipping cost into the price, some shops do not.
Most buyers on ig have said they would rather have one price, then having a item price, then fees and  shipping added later. Keep that in mind.
Paypal fee are about .50 but can be less or more.
Shipping cost goes off weight, you can print off shipping labels right off PayPal. You'll need a scale to do so. Shipping for me is usually between $2-$4 per package.
I buy Polly mailers off amazon, I got 100 for under $10. Much cheaper then post office supplies.

Followers-
To gain followers check out other ig shops and follow them.
Create a share for share (S4S) post, share for share is when other shops comment "sharing" and share a item or a post and tag your shop, in return you share a item from their shop and tag them.
To share, take a screenshot of a item in their shop and in the description tag that shop and say something nice about the item. Most share for shares last about an hour, so don't delete the post for at least a hour.

Keep your page clean and orginized to attract more followers. Keep your available items at the top of the page, no one likes having to scroll for two minutes to find your items.

Selling is pretty easy once you get ig figured out. Spend a day watching how other shops work if you need better ideas on how ig selling works.
